All About ME!

Hello Rock Creek Forest Tigers!

I'm Sarah Cohen and I am proud to be your school counselor.  I am beginning my 19th year as an employee in Montgomery County Public Schools.  Really, MCPS has been a part of almost my entire life. I attended Wootton High School and then graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.  I studied Elementary Education with a concentration in Science and during college enjoyed a 6 month study abroad experience in Wollongong,  Australia.

During my time teaching first and second graders at College Gardens E.S. and Burning Tree E.S., I realized that I had a unwavering passion and for working with students and families to support the social-emotional wellbeing of the learners in my classroom.  That is when I began attending Johns Hopkins University to earn a Masters of Science in School Counseling.  for 8 years in first and second grades, I landed at my current home, Rock Creek Forest where I have been a school counselor for 11 years!

When I am not busy fulfilling my Tiger duties, you would find me spending time with my husband, Michael and our two wonderfully different and dynamic sons, Ethan (6) and Ryan, (5).   I also love taking long walks in Rock Creek Park near my home in Washington, D.C. with our Pointer mutt, Baxter.

I am a register yoga teacher (RYT) with yoga alliance and when I can find the free time love practicing yoga. I also enjoy beading, reading, and biking.

I believe that every child already has everything within them to be an intelligent, curious, and strong human! My goal as your counselor is to help you see the endless potential within yourself and focus on your skills and strengths to help you develop maintain healthy relationships with others and a positive belief in yourself!
