All About ME!

Hello Rock Creek Forest Tigers!

I'm Lynsay Gillis and I am proud to be your school counselor.  I am beginning my third year at Rock Creek Forest ES!  Before coming to MCPS, I was a counselor in another Maryland school system for eight years, and an elementary teacher for five years.  I am a proud graduate of University of Maryland College Park (Go Terps!). I completed my student-teaching in MCPS many years ago, and I am thrilled to be working in Montgomery County again.

After getting my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, I taught third and fourth graders. During my time in the classroom, I found my passion for school counseling. I graduated from McDaniel College with my Masters in Counselor Education and became an elementary counselor. I continue to learn and expand my skills. I've taken several post-master's classes in clinical mental health counseling at Loyola University, Maryland.

When I am not busy fulfilling my Tiger duties, you would find me spending time with my husband and children. We love going for walks, and playing outside as a family.

In my free time, I love to read and run outside. I have completed several races, including two full marathons. Being outside is my favorite way to practice self-care.

I believe that every child can be whoever (and whatever) they want to be in life! My goal as your counselor is to support you on your journey. I am an advocate for children, and support students with their social-emotional, academic, and career goals.
